Yep, he's asleep

So this is a recap of our visit to the Davis's house today (yesterday).

Zane is and has always been very cuddly. Despite what some people predict, I think he always will be. He's also a big hit with mommies, daddies and grandmoms of babies who prefer to wiggle and run (not that there's anything wrong with that). Cathleen got some QT with Zane today. He's been in love with her from the very beginning.

Zane had his first popsicle today. It was love/hate.

That's not everything, but it's all I have pictures of. (How do you not end that sentence in a preposition?) Tired - sleeping baby - goodnight.

Hmmm...I think he might be asleep!

2:47 a.m.
Anyhoo - last weekend we pulled a Britney and faced Zane forward in his carseat. This is how impressed he was.I suppose we were expecting grateful tears and a big "Thank you, Mommy and Daddy! This is the best early birthday present, ever! I love you so much!" Instead, my Dad threatened to call CPS.

2 am - Zane's Crying

We started the evening pretty well. We spent most of the day over at Jude's house (Mommy got to visit with Cathleen, yea!). We stayed for dinner, the boys had a bath and we had a nice ride home (no sleeping). Quick nurse and into bed. 5 minutes later one of us was asleep. He woke up at 1 and, against my better judgement, I went to check for a poopie diaper. None. An hour of crying later, I went to check again. None.

Here's some fun pictures of Zane from this morning.

Wish me luck tonight!

Need new furniture

Do you know how hard it is to find a DVD-player-compatible piece of furniture that measures no more than 27" wide and 36" tall? Any suggestions?

Playing in the rain!

Zane likes the bath and the pool so much (and Cookie's water bowl) that we thought he'd enjoy playing in the rain. He did.

Chatty Cathy

Zane loves to talk on the phone, now. Rather, as there is no actual talking, he loves to BE on the phone. He holds everything (watermelon pieces, sausage, remote controls, dead leaves) up to his ear with his shoulder hitched up then looks up at me to narrate the conversation. Invariably the call is from Daddy or Grandmom. Below is an actual call from Uncle Lance. Those of you who've spoken to Lance on the phone will know how entertaining a 1 year old should find it.

NOT a Baby Ruth

Yes, this is exactly what it looks like: fake rubber poop. Zane found it in John's bedside table, just where you'd expect it to be.

First Real Word

We're pretty sure Zane said 'Cookie' today. My mom confirmed it. Cookie, by the way, is the name of our dog. Zane doesn't yet get to eat cookies. This could, of course, be confusing when he does start to eat cookies. Or when Cookie gets a Cookie.
FYI - Cookie's full name is Cookie Googleman Fleck. Best in Show fans will understand.

If he can do this now, what happens when he can walk?

My mom and I took Zane and Noah to Willowbrook Mall to play in their little toddler playground. The floor is squishy and all the playscapes are soft. Perfect for little ones who haven't perfected gravity.
Zane spent 20 minutes crawling up this truck and sliding down. Over and over again. I couldn't believe that he could do it. Scared the crap out of me. Seriously, am I going to be one of those mothers with a leashed child? I have a leashed dog (for her own good, right?) - it's not so great a leap, is it?

It's really nice to have family close by

My brother Spencer took last Friday off to take care of his son while Sandra went to her first day at her new job. We took the kiddos to the Children's Museum. Noah is five months older than Zane, which is a HUGE age difference right now. But on neutral ground, when they're both strapped in and there's no toy competition, the love is there.

Big Ball

(It's been awhile since I've downloaded pics from my phone, so some of these next few posts are a little old)

We were in Target and Zane spotted the big bin of balls. He had to have one. He carried it like so through the entire store (I had a little more shopping to do), barely let me take it away to be scanned, and then carried it all the way to the car.
I had to take it away to put him in his car seat. And, because he's still facing backwards, he couldn't hold it on the drive home. Heartbreaking.
He, of course, hasn't touched the dang thing since. Wasted $2.39.

It's no table dance...

He crawled right out of his pants.

Crying over spilt milk

This is our first spill. Zane doesn't even really like milk, but he had to have the cup before I was done putting the lid on it.

People - we've got a biter

Zane bit me this morning. He's bitten me before (I still have a bruise on my knee from one such bite), but this morning he proved it to be cognizant, intentional behavior. For the fifth time this morning, I had to stop him from playing in Cookie's food and water bowls. I told him "no" and picked him up to take him back to the lounge. He screamed and stiffened (which I was expecting) then growled, bared his teeth and chomped on my cheek (which I wasn't expecting). Now, I was a little shocked that an 11 month old baby could be so malicious, so I might be remembering this wrong, but he then licked his lips and said something about fava beans and chianti. Very creepy.

Once the shock wore off, I thought "my goodness this child is advanced!" I didn't think biting in anger would start for many more months (if at all). But my mom tells me that Zane's at the right age to begin developing his sociopathic behavior. Well, at least he's on track. Yea!

Mmm...watermelon...

We usually cut up pieces of watermelon for Zane to eat. Apparantly that's not necessary. We also usually don't let him eat ON the table. Grandma's house, Grandma's rules.

(Below: it's nice to see that my mom can still be surprised by a child!)
