Spider-man and Marriage Equality

Zane was watching Ultimate Spider-Man this morning. He asked me why Sam (Nova) likes Peter Parker's friend M.J. I told him that he probably thought that she was smart, funny and pretty and that he likes her in way that's different - like he would want to marry her one day. He made a little funny face and said that Peter Parker doesn't like her like that and that he doesn't think she's funny. I said "yeah, I think he does like M.J. like he wants to marry her." Zane replied "no, Peter Parker likes Harry [Osbourne]. He wants to marry Harry, right?"

Yes. Maybe he does. And maybe he will.

And kudos to John for just sitting there and eating his sausage silently. Heh, heh. Sausage.

Sandra

This evening I visited my sister-in-law, Sandra, in the hospital.  She is suffering from a devastating form of cancer and may not leave the hospital.  Because of complications with her pain medication, or from the morphine, or from...having a terrible disease, she is in a state of dementia.

I am thankful that she recognized me and our friend Cathleen who was also visiting and I am thankful that I was able to sit and talk with her for awhile.  And I am thankful that I was able to tell her that I love her.

We chatted about why she was in the hospital (a rash or a fever) and about Noah.  She remarked on the mouse on top of the dresser and the green gorilla.  She said that if she'd been a pregnant teen, she would have just said "fuck you."  It was an interesting conversation and a little bit sad, but not hard.  I think Sandra enjoyed our visit.

Dinosaurs

Our neighbor, Sergio, gave Zane a bag full of art and craft supplies that he came across in his own episode of Storage Wars. Zane was super excited about all of it (construction paper, glue, chalk, finger paints - everything that we already have and he never wants to use).

While rummaging through the bag he found this little gem and exclaimed "oooohh!! What's this?!?! A phone?!?!?"

He was pretty disappointed to learn that it was only a calculator - something which we now have ON our phone.
