Notice that two of these pictures (and I don't know how many more in past postings or on my harddrive) are taken while Zane is strapped into a high chair. There's a lot of these because he's sTRAPPED INto A HIGH CHAIR. Otherwise, you would just see a blurry back-of-the-head. Or Cookie and just Zane's feet.Monday, June 30, 2008
I'm Freaking Tired
I'm freaking tired. So, in lieu of anything clever or funny, here are some of my favorite pictures taken recently. Mom, sorry for the unflattering pic, but it makes me smile.

Miami
We've slept! Here are some pics from Miami.
Adam babysat on Sunday so I could see Deb in her play. He actually got Zane to sleep. He tried to put him in Julian's crib, but Julian wouldn't let him. Julian remembered Zane crying much of the night in it (and much of the morning) and knew Zane didn't want to be there. So Julian insisted that they all three lay down together. This is the result.
So, after mostly sleepless nights, Zane looked like this sometimes...

And sometimes like this...

And like this sometimes...

Zane really liked playing in Julian's room. It was mostly still baby-proof. And Julian was pretty good at sharing. Except for his Teletubbies (sp?). The Tubbies were non-negotiable. And see that Pikachu (sp?) in the corner? At 5 in the morning, when Zane wants to play, Pikachu's crotch makes a serviceable pillow.
The trip home was exciting. The flight was fine. Zane slept for about an hour and only fussed the last 20 minutes of the flight. Everyone around us thought he was the cat's pajamas, so no dirty looks. My mom picked us up and we got going. Zane decided to poop as soon as we got out of the airport (he gets that from his dad) and I thought, "Wow, that was a big one. Geez, it must have leaked a bit for it to smell that bad." My mom agreed. But, what can you do when you're on the freeway? So, by this time I realized that I had lost my keys. No big deal, called my Dad and he would meet us at my house with the key. Stopped at KFC, Zane went ballistic. We figured he was just hungry and tired of sitting in poop. Understandable. Well, in fact, he was tired of sitting in poop, tired of poop on his legs and arms, tired of poop on his hands and tired of poop on his face. He may also have been tired of poop in his mouth. Can't say for sure. So right from the car to the bath. My dad snapped this shot after we had already gotten him washed a bit. But if you look closely, you can still see the scatological evidence.
This is a pic from our KFC dinner after the bath. That's cheese all over Zane's face. Minutes earlier it looked very different. But eerily similar.
So, in a nutshell, the Miami trip was not a great vacation, but a true learning experience. It was nice to see Deb, Adam and Julian. It was 10-15 degrees cooler than Houston. I ate Cuban food. I came home with a bunch of 18-24 month clothes for Zane. John spent the weekend cleaning the house. Not too shabby.
Thank you Deb and Adam for your hospitality. Thank you Julian for sharing your toys, crib and Mommy and Dada. See you soon. Here in Houston.

Returned from Miami
We came back from Miami two days early. Perhaps we will not be traveling without Daddy in the near future. Or perhaps we just won't be traveling in the near future. Here's the short list...
- Baby + Stroller + Boppy Pillow + Carry-on + Coffee - Daddy = difficulty getting onto plane. Some boyscouts helped. Too bad there isn't a merit badge for babysitting.
- Zane didn't prefer sleeping while we were there. I did prefer sleeping, but didn't get to.
- Debbie's play was really great. She was wonderful, too. It's getting rave reviews. Yea!
- We ate Cuban food. Yea! Mariquitas con mojo, yea! They didn't have papa rellenas, though.
- Zane pooped as soon as we drove away from Hobby Airport on our way home. He leaked and was apparantly so hungry that he had to try some. He didn't especially like it. Or maybe he did - I didn't really see how much he started with. We ate KFC for dinner. Not sure if that's much better.
- Zane nursed for 25 minutes and fell fast asleep. All is right in his world. Yea!
I'll post pictures later. I'm too tired to do it tonight.

Pets and Baby - Symbiosis
Sometimes I think the pets are too much work. But then I realize that they make my job of child rearing easier. Zane played with this cat toy for twenty minutes this morning. That was enough time for me to get coffee and get his breakfast ready.

Separation Anxiety?
We had a baby shower to attend/host yesterday so Grandma babysat for us. Zane was apparently fine until we came home and he just then realized that we had been gone. Then came the tears. Fortunately, with babies, even timing is baby-sized. After a few minutes, everything was forgiven. Even being held by Uncle Lance was tolerated.
(I haven't had my coffee yet this morning, so I'm a little fuzzy. Please forgive my mistakes, Cathleen!)

Best Friends
It was apparently 88 degrees at the Davis house yesterday. So, I cranked down the AC and they came over here. The girls were entranced by the TV (including Cathleen) and the boys bonded. Cookie just wanted to be inside with everyone else.

Okay - I've been busy (lazy). Here's an update:
May 31 - We went blueberry picking. It was hot, but we had fun. Zane ate a lot of blueberries. So did John and he got a stomache ache. Jennifer came to town for our Sex and the City day. We had pedicures, dinner and a the movie. Nice to get out, but I was exhausted.

June 1 - Zane had a fever, so he played in his pool to cool off. That put him in a better mood. Then he had to be handfed pizza from daddy's lap.
June 2 - Zane had an ear infection. Really didn't feel well and let us know it. But he's just so darn cute when he's sick.

Too bad he's not as cute when he's sick. I think I need to work on my empathy. I think I sound like my mom.
June 4 - I'm not sick yet. I have a baby shower to plan and not enough time to do so. No kisses for John (or any other bodily fluid exchange). I simply cannot stop kissing Zane. So be it.
