Miami

We've slept! Here are some pics from Miami.

Adam babysat on Sunday so I could see Deb in her play. He actually got Zane to sleep. He tried to put him in Julian's crib, but Julian wouldn't let him. Julian remembered Zane crying much of the night in it (and much of the morning) and knew Zane didn't want to be there. So Julian insisted that they all three lay down together. This is the result.

So, after mostly sleepless nights, Zane looked like this sometimes...

And sometimes like this...
And like this sometimes...
Zane really liked playing in Julian's room. It was mostly still baby-proof. And Julian was pretty good at sharing. Except for his Teletubbies (sp?). The Tubbies were non-negotiable. And see that Pikachu (sp?) in the corner? At 5 in the morning, when Zane wants to play, Pikachu's crotch makes a serviceable pillow.

The trip home was exciting. The flight was fine. Zane slept for about an hour and only fussed the last 20 minutes of the flight. Everyone around us thought he was the cat's pajamas, so no dirty looks. My mom picked us up and we got going. Zane decided to poop as soon as we got out of the airport (he gets that from his dad) and I thought, "Wow, that was a big one. Geez, it must have leaked a bit for it to smell that bad." My mom agreed. But, what can you do when you're on the freeway? So, by this time I realized that I had lost my keys. No big deal, called my Dad and he would meet us at my house with the key. Stopped at KFC, Zane went ballistic. We figured he was just hungry and tired of sitting in poop. Understandable. Well, in fact, he was tired of sitting in poop, tired of poop on his legs and arms, tired of poop on his hands and tired of poop on his face. He may also have been tired of poop in his mouth. Can't say for sure. So right from the car to the bath. My dad snapped this shot after we had already gotten him washed a bit. But if you look closely, you can still see the scatological evidence.

This is a pic from our KFC dinner after the bath. That's cheese all over Zane's face. Minutes earlier it looked very different. But eerily similar.

So, in a nutshell, the Miami trip was not a great vacation, but a true learning experience. It was nice to see Deb, Adam and Julian. It was 10-15 degrees cooler than Houston. I ate Cuban food. I came home with a bunch of 18-24 month clothes for Zane. John spent the weekend cleaning the house. Not too shabby.

Thank you Deb and Adam for your hospitality. Thank you Julian for sharing your toys, crib and Mommy and Dada. See you soon. Here in Houston.

I'm impressed by Zane's range of emotion in those photos. Seems like a professional.

I hope you don't find any poop remnants this coming week. They sometimes hang around for awhile.

Sounds like Adam has THE touch - Julian and Zane are too cute sleeping. And perhaps brilliant actress, Deb, did some Zane coaching because his emotional range is also brilliantly portrayed.
